Deer Kachina This doll is signed simply, "L. Ponyah". Mr. Ponyah identified this kachina as a "sheep kachina", however the horns are typical of the deer kachina. There are some unusual touches about this doll which mark it as intricate and extremely well done. Note the bells carved on the knees. This left hand kachina is intricate and many faceted. The larger of the two kachinas is holding a deer aloft. Tied to his belt are a rabbit and a prairie chicken. Hano Mana by Jacob Warner An unusual piece. First the signature is incised on the bottom with a knife and includes an elaboarte cliff dwelling scene. The stylized maiden kachina features muted colors and lots of detail including a cliff dwelling base. Spotted Corn Kachina Carved by Russell Sahmie. There are three distinguishing characteristics of this doll. First, there are two kachinas carved from one root. The reverse side is a Hopi maiden. Second, the pottery symbol near the base is a "signature" symbol because the Sahmies are well known potters.Lastly, there's a very nice dragonfly design at the lower right side of the Spotted Corn kachina.
